Selama ini muncul anggapan bahwa nyamuk lebih tertarik dengan darah perempuan daripada laki-laki karena dianggap lebih manis. (emang ada hubungannya yah???)
Anggapan itu ternyata berbeda dengan laporan badan Annals of Internal Medicine yang telah dipublikasikan di harian the New York Times. Menurut mereka, nyamuk sebenarnya lebih tertarik pada manusia yang berukuran besar alias gemuk. Ini mungkin disebabkan karena tubuh yang besar biasanya memancarkan panas atau karbon dioksida yang lebih besar sehingga menarik perhatian nyamuk.
Hal ini disimpulkan dari hasil penelitian dengan membandingkan tubuh perempuan hamil dengan yang tidak. Analisisnya, perempuan hamil lebih banyakmengeluarkan panas atau karbon dioksida sehingga dapat dengan mudah terdeteksi oleh nyamuk.
Ternyata karbon dioksida dan asam laktat merupakan daya tarik yang kuat bagi nyamuk, bahkan nyamuk dapat mendeteksi sampai jarak 30meter, wow. :)
